Surface Skimming ?
Hello
I am still relatively new to Protein Skimmers and am looking at getting a HOB style one from "Octopus" I am a little confused about what they mean by "Surface Skimming" because they comment on only 1 of there HOB type skimmers being able to "Surface Skim" yet I can tell how it is different from the others.... This is a link to all there modules / HOB's http://www.reefoctopus.com.au/v2/pub...21B3794D00261F The only one they say that will do "Surface Skimming" is the "Module 350 Combo" too me it looks like many of the other modules they have, where is this "Surface Skimming" action going to take place on the skimmer ? I ask because I am interested in these but would like a slightly larger one but at the same time they say ONLY the "Module 350 Combo" does the surface so there is NO other sizes for a skimmer from them with "Surface Skimming" abilities like the "Module 350 combo". Any clues =D ? Cheers

It looks like Module 350 internal, module 400 and 600, and of course the 350 combo which you mentioned all have surface skimming capability. This is assuming their pictures are of the actual product. What they mean by surface skimming is you'll that these particular models take water in from the top surface layer. You can tell because you'll see grates where the water flows through and falls down to be sucked in by the skimmer pump. They act like overflows which you see built into reef ready tanks.

Surface Skimming Extracts protein loaded surface water, thus optimizing skimming efficiency and aquarium health (Module 350 Combo only). This is what confuses me.... EDIT: Initially I just compared pics to pics to see what differences there were and what exactly was the surface skimmer side of the 350combo I came down to it being the little box with the cut away slots is what the surface skimmer was but what stumped me was other skimmers having the same thing on there site and there site saying that ONLY the 350 Combo does surface skimming....nvr a good thing when the company themselves is NOT clear about there own products.....
