Question carbon and gro reactor pump? which one do you use?

as of some of you guys know i and going to buy a carbon and gfo reactor. i am going to go with the brs duel reactor since it fits my budget and i only want one pump. now brs is selling this reactor with a mj1200. now i was wondering if i should go with this pump or has anyone used a different pump with great success. thanks for your time.

I tried with my maxi600 and didn't get enough out of it. I put my Maxi1200 and it was perfect. you can control how much goes through the reactor

I am looking at getting a Carbon/GFO reactor for my new tank as well. This will go by my sump under the tank. I was looking at http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/store/...reactor-1.html. Is there any reason why i should go with duel reactor?

If you are getting the BRS Dual Reactor use a MJ1200. I am not a fan of that reactor due to the fact that GFO and Carbon require different flow rates to work properly and tumble/not tumble. I have my Biopellet reactor split off of my return line.

I know that some people use a single reactor for Carbon/GFO. Is that a bad idea?

the noise issues people are talking about are when turning down the flow of the chineese made maxijet pumps. if you get the colbalt maxijet pumps (original makers of the pumps) then you will be fine with no noise.

not a bad idea as I know some people that do run them this way however the problem will be is that carbon don't last as long as GFO so changing out just the carbon is a PITA so most just change them both out at the same time, then your wasteing the GFO

How much are you really wasting and is the cost so great that it doesn't make sense to do it this way?

well IMO with the price of GFO it is cheaper to have 2 seperate reactors.

carbon usually is changed out every 2 weeks and GFO is usually good for about a month depending on how high your phosphates are. so changing out the carbon and GFO every 2 weeks your prob. wasteing half the GFO

Any suggestions on what two reactors to get? I am new to having a sump tank and have never used reactors.
