Overflow wall is noisy & creates micro bubbles - help customize tray to stop both
I basically took the Solana idea & put it on steroids when building this cube. Even the stand itself is very similar, but custom build using high quality wood.
I have an overflow built right into my false wall inside my customs 24x24x20 cube. It works great as far as flow, but if the water level in the back behind the false wall is too low, it is noisy from the water splashing and then also creates micro bubbles that get into the DT. Now I actually have the water much higher in the back chamber that I would like, because it doesnt allow me to utilize the gravity fed, auto-top off feature I designed into the tank via 3 reservoir bottles in the back right corner seen here: Now I would also like to incorporate filter floss into this modification somehow, because I really like how it helps polish out and filter the water just a bit more to get that next level of clarity. Now at the moment, to act as a sound dampener & also a filtering stage, I stuff a bunch of filter floss inside of a media back & stuff it between one of the return lines & the back of the overflow itself. It also rests on the top baffle to my 1st chamber which holds my skimmer, you can see that here: http://s578.photobucket.com/albums/s...t=aa2ba717.jpg Baffles here (if you look close) What ideas have you guys come up with to help in a situation like this where your overflow wall is too loud and produces micro bubbles? I was thinking some type of tray made of acrylic that has a couple of hangers to hang onto the back wall, but that will still produce micro bubbles because the water has to fall to the bottom still. Perhaps adding a slanted wall like a V to drop the water down a wall to help make it silent & travel return pumps with out splashing & making micro bubbles? Here are a couple of pictures before any water is in to help you see the baffles/chambers: Ideas? Thanks.

it's simple, your return pump is pushing too much water back into the tank, the rushing water is not falling down the wall like it should, instead it's pouring in.
you can try and raise the water level in the overflow or turn down the flow on the return. you may have to put a tee on the return with a valve and loop some flow back into the overflow area.

The thing is, I'm kind of ok with the turn over of the DT, I'd like to just devise something to slow the water drop without having to break the tank down.
Plus want to incorporate filter floss into this.
