ro/di setup question
ok so I got th ro/di plumbed in last night and it does make water really slow. My question is what does everyone do with all the "bad or discarded" water? I have it draining outside at the moment but it seems as though I would waste alot of water. I have well water with an aerator tank and I'm thinking about running a line from ro filter back to water holding tank? Did I do something wrong or do they always "waste alot of water? It looks to me that if you had to pay for you water(city water) it would get expensive real quick

Depending on the ro/di system and the water presser I think it is about 1 gallon of good water to 2 gallons of waist water. I just run my waster water down the drain. I know some use it in there washing machine others use it to water plants. Not sure if you can put it in your well water holding tank I dont see why not. I just got done filling my 150 gallon tank and my 100 gallon sump and it took almost 3 days of non stop running to fill everything. I do pay for city water and I am not going to lie kind of scared to get that bill.

I have a 90 gpd Spectrapure unit. the man ual said that the ratio filtered/waste water is somewhere 1/4. I'd imagine the ratio would depend of the type of membranes you have in your system, how many stages it is and of course the quality of your tap water.
As for the waste water I've heart people collecting it and using it for irigation and such which is a great idea as long as you have enough space to set up a holding tank for it. |

My unit is a 4:1 ratio
It does waste a bit of water... I use it to fill up the washing machine and water plants sometimes

A 1:4 ratio is about the norm. If your water pressure is low it will be worse. With a booster pump you can probably get it down to 1:3 or maybe even 1:2... maybe. I'm considering getting a 240g storage tank (can be had for $15 from one of our local club members in N Ft Meyers), I'll store the waste water and then run it back thru the RO/DI system a couple more times with a booster pump made for RO/DI systems.

Brs makes an add on membrane that can double production and cut waste water in half. I've been looking into it for my 75gpd.

This is an issue ive been really really worried about. Im not much of a gardner. How expesive can this really get? Would you really save the money buying it for .50 per gallon at the lfs in the long run?
