I have to admit, the fish got me into this hobby, but the I'm sure the corals are what's going to keep me in it, although my starry blenny keeps me giggling like a school girl sometimes. Drives my wife nuts I love my torch and my toadstool leather. I'm looking at getting some Duncan's which I think look pretty cool too.

That's so funny! I kinda have the same prob! My shrimp goby pair just crack me up how they work together. My goby just sits there All day. As my shrimp comes in and out of the hole like a little bulldozer! And he sorts all of his shells out into different piles! I love it I. Can watch him for hours.

+1 on the shrimp goby pair. they are so fun to watch. they've set up shop under my plate coral and so far it doesn't seem to mind it.

My favorite is the baby clowns I got two weeks ago. After every feeding they play tag for 10 minutes. They also are being hosted by a PVC elbow that they keep rubbing like it's a nem lol. Fun to watch them!

my fav is my hermit and false trochus.. the hermit climbs on his back and picks at things on his shell.. while he does this the snail slowly twists around to one side then suddenly snaps back, flinging the hermit to the ground

Like dapladapus, I got in to the hobby for the fish (didn't even know I could do coral). The corals have been cool too. But my wife and I get to snorkel in the Florida Keys 4-5 times a year and sometimes we bring home some cool inverts. The anemones, sea cucumbers, serpent stars, shrimp, emerald crabs and more, have all been fun. I have a small verigated (green & white) urchin that likes to carry around live snails as camoflage. We are going to the Keys next week and I want to find a large spaghetti worm for our nem tank. We have small ones in our DT that have fine thread like tentacles that can reach out maybe an inch or two. They don't sting like anemones, they just collect dead stuff off the sand. But we have seen bigger ones in the Keys with tentacles that are translucent blue/green, a thick as string and up to 12" or more in reach. I've never seen one in anybody's tank before. Trust me, if I get one, and it survives quarantine, I'll post pics of it in the tank.

The favorite thing about my tank is the height. A tall tank just looks so much more natural. Its a little harder to clean than a short tank but its worth it to me.

Snorkeling or diving a reef is very cool. We have done that many times. But we are finding that snorkeling the flats close to the uninhabated islands of the Keys is even more fun. Last time out we found an area that was rubble rock bottom and 2-4' deep. So we were able to pick up rock after rock to see what was underneath. It was like Christmas day and under every rock was a surprise present. And we find lots of things we can't bring home, like this:

This kind of 'finger' coral is found all over the shallow flats where there is good current. We can't collect the coral as collection of any stoney coral in Florida is illegal. However, with a Florida Saltwater Fishing License you can collect limited numbers of some animals. I don't know if this guy is protected or not (I don't think so) but they play havoc in a nice mixed reef tank, are inclined to climb out of the tank (and likely die before they find their way back) and they have very short life spans (9-18 months).

It's hard to choose ONE favorite thing about the tank, but here are a few categories:

Equipment: Watching bio-pellets tumbling in reactor
Fish: Personable starry blenny perching on rocks, corals, and barnacles
Invert: Fighting conch vacuuming the sand bed
Coral: Zoanthid colonies growing over time
Tank: Feeding the fish

For now I will stick with fish.

In my 40 breeder it is either my C. venustus dwarf angel, or goby/shrimp pair.

In the 65... hmm that is a tough one, will have to go with my multicolor dwarf angel over my golden lawnmower blenny

Older pic,

75, would have to be my blue dwarf angel -- hasn't been officially named.

Todd, Your multicolored dwarf angel is gorgeous, is it reef safe ?

My greatest satisfaction, and it's kind of a long term reef geek sort of thing, is that all my fish and 75% of corals are captive propagated. I haven't bought a wild collected coral for years and I've distributed frags from my corals throughout the community, some times selling and sometimes swapping.

If you want a pic I'm rather fond of my bristle worm farm .

Thank you sir.

It is reef safeish

For some reason it started to pick at one of my clams (( and yet leaves the other one alone )). I think that the clam was already stressed (( moved it from another tank, puffer was picking at it )), so that might be the cause. It will sample everything, but doesn't do any major damage. That includes pest softies, zoas, SPS and anemones. I won't keep any fleshy LPS, because all my other dwarf angels love them.

favorite thing is its almost 100% automated so i can enjoy whats in the tank now rather than dosing and water top offs.

favorite inside tank thing would be watching how fast all the SPS grow

Toadstool leather coral that started out as a 1" frag and is now almost 10" across...it goes through several stages during the day, from being open fully early in the morning to a tight little softball shortly after lights come on to different stages of open throughout the day. Entertaining thing and the other half loves it. outside of that, all of the different changes from one week to the next...and the Allen's damsel that laid eggs a few weeks ago-then turned around and ate them! LOL
