Puzzled by my Acans

I got two acan frags (not a fan of acans myself but my fiance is in love with them... another thread) about a month ago. One is doing beyond wonderful, the other not so much. Params check out (not going to type a list right now, but trust me they'r fine). These corals were dipped in coral rx prior to being introduced as well. Any ideas?

Sorry for the crappy pics. Only have a phone camera, and it hates the blue light in the tank

Happy

Sad

I feed the tank reef chili once every two days or so. Also spot feed at least once a week, but closer to twice.

I just don't understand why one would be so happy under the same light and one not? I'll get this one in a shaded spot I guess and see

Are there any threads on LEDs being too intense for corals? I searched but I guess I am using the wrong keywords. I have a strong suspicion this is the problem with some of my corals.

Mine close up like that all the time. It usually lasts 2-3 days. Unless there is tissue damage not shown in the photo than I would say they are fine and will come back around. Maybe stay up after lights out to see if anything is bothering them.

I'm not sure about threads specifically about it, but yes LED's can be too intense (just like any light source/coral placement.)

Also, depending on the setup, you can get spots in the tank that are brighter where led overlap makes more par in a 2 square inch area. Try switching the 2 scans and see if the symptom switches with placement

I wouldn't think it's an issue of more light in one area. It's a DIY led string where both colors of LEDs are evenly distributed. The pictures are terrible, but there does appear to be some tissue damage. If not damage then recession. I am able to see the skeleton around each head, though there does seem to be tissue there however it's much lighter than the feast of the head of that makes any sense.

I also have a couple cephastria drags doing excellent. In fact, one of them was browned out when I got it and is now a lovely green and orange. Sps are doing great and growing like weeds. Just this one acan that has me scratching my head.

Well, put these guys in a nice shady spot and they are still disintegrating. All but gone. Everything else still looks great. Sad (glad I only paid $10)

Strange how that happens, when you get 2 of the same thing and one does fine, the other not so

My first acans did so poorly I didn't get any more for months. Bought some live rock with a few on it and they've done great. The feeder strands are 4 or 5 inches long at night. Since then I've acquired several more that are also doing great. No changes in the tank between the first ones and these but those just gave up the ghost, for some unknown reason

Nothing but skeleton left on the one that was doing poorly. On the contrary, the other one has the beginning of 3 new heads around the outer rim. Strange...

Did coral rx before introduction and once more about 3 days ago.

the interceptor is totally different and will kill off critters that iodine based dips wont touch . i had a horrible experience with acans a few years ago and lost approximately $10K in corals . the solution was interceptor and it worked great after 90% of my corals had been decimated .
you have to get it through your vet and its for heart worms "arthropods"and thats what you want to kill on your acans IMO .
best wishes
