Algae,detritus trap?

Im wondering how much of a problem hair algae would be in a way that it captures detritus inside and as a result cause more algae. How often do you blow the rock and algae to avoid detritus accumulation? Also can someone explain to me what exactly blowing the rock is about?Moving detritus from dead zones to places on the rock with high flow to increase nitrification and denitrification maybe?

its to kick up the detritus into suspension so the mech filter can bind it and then we clean the filters.

yes algae is a community of nutrients there was an article in reefscapes recently that outlined it as EAM I think it was called epilithic algal matrix, that which is found in and among algal communities. copepods, bacterial floc, detritus, all rotting and exuding ammonia via metabolism (as any respirer does) yes it becomes self perpetuative.

it must be said that permitting algae to grow in your tank is one of many old school methods. if you like it, leave it. if you don't want it in your tank, remove it each time you see it through one of a 100 methods. I subscribe to the latter. in ten years of pics of my pico reefs you will never see one with algae, why let something that can become plague like stay in a tank? clean up crews are a let down waiting to happen.

No algae ever made it past my windproof flame lighter (during a water change when the rock is exposed)

I dont chase perfect water params, I remove algae manually and the corals deal with the water params I give them. fish remove algae on the reef, without fish algae will grow even in pristine water conditions.
