What is growing in my sand?
These little things have been in my sand for around 2 months, at first I thought it was just detritus and when I tried to vacuum them I found they go deep into the sand bed! Part of them sticks out of the sand but 3/4 of them are in the sand it kind of looks like roots. Just wondering if anyone knows what they are?
Thanks! |

Do you ever see anything coming out of those tubes? Two little antenna looking things? My guess would be spinoid worms.

I've never seen anything coming out of them before, I looked up spionid worms and they don't have those two antenna type things. They don't really look like they are some kind of tubes either.

Here's a picture of what I think they might be. Maybe not though.

You sure nothing comes out of them? At all? What color are they?

I can't speak for the OP, but I'm positive nothing comes out. They look like vertical fish turds jammed into the sand.

Absolutely 100% beyond a shadow of a doubt sure there isn't anything coming out. I've spend hours with my face to the glass watching them.

They're under the top layer of the sand-bed, and I can only see them if I vacuum up some sand during a WC, but I will uncover some tonight to watch in the morning.

What are snail worms? Internet images reveal a snail beside a worm, possibly the snail wants to eat it.

Have you tried grabbing a tube with a pair of tweezers and pulling it out of the sand and putting it in a small dish so you can inspect it and even cut it open?

There's probably a giant immobile fish that's pooping out turd infinitely into the sand.
