CUC only for algae control?

Is it possible to use a CUC only to keep algae in check (besides water changes)? And when I say in check I mean, I don't mean the tank/rock/substrate has to be pristine, just controlled...

CUC are dutritus eaters and won't touch the algea, so no it would work.

How much deeper would the ocean be if it didn't have sponges?

I had two Emerald Crabs and one would eat algae nonstop for 3 months. It was doing such a good job that I bought another. The first one got too big and ate two of my fire fish, so I took him back. The other never really took a liking to algae but I caught him one night eating my acan, so he's gone too. I guess you could try an emerald crab but it's no guarantee it'll eat algae and even if it does they don't eat all kinds. Best just to keep nutrients as low as possible.
