Hard green algae problem
A friend of mind keeps getting a hard green algae problem on the glass only we are unsure of the type its not hair or the cyno. He got a UV sterilizer and no help. Water seems fine. Unable to get rid of any ideas?

I've had this in my tanks in the past. In my tanks, it's been a green film that grew in high flow areas, such as near the return output. Mag floats can't get rid of it, but razor blades will. Like all unwelcome algae, it's grows when there are nutrients fueling it (phosphate and nitrate most often). The usual steps in improving water quality will eventually make it subside-- step up water change routine, replace RO filters, reduce feedings, run GFO media, etc.

If it looks green when viewed from the outside of the tank, it's not coralline. Coralline algae has a calcium base so it will look white or grayish when viewed from the back (outside the tank)

For sure coraline comes in different colours, I have pink purple and green.
Also I've never heard of a hard algae before, its just a super basic plant. |
