Feather Duster And a Cycling Tank

Has many may know my tank was torn down a couple months ago. I had this feather duster since I purchased the tank set up off of craigslist and would love to keep it, but I have a problem in my way now. That problem is properly cycling a tank... I know the micro(small) feather dusters do fairly well, but how about the normal larger sized dusters? If it won't make the cycle, any tips on removing it? It is attatched to one of my favorite rock pieces. Thanks!

A bit confused.

Where is the feather duster now?
If it is attached to a rock, why not just add that rock after the cycle is complete?

It is in a 46 gallon holding tank with fish left over from the tear down. The fish are going to be gone in the next couple of weeks. I won't have anywhere to put it because as soon as the fish in the 46 gallon holding tank, my new clowns are going in for a prophyatic QT treatment. The 12 gallon the clowns are in now has a very small leak, not leaking majorly, just a small puddle under the tank about every two weeks after clean up. So the tank will be tossed after the two clowns go in the 46 gallon.

Would the rock be able to be in an unlit container? If so then I may have a place for it. Only problem is that it would be easy to forget feeding it. It went 4 weeks no phyto, and looked pretty bad. Three weeks of Phytomax, it is looking better than ever.
