Rock cleaning

I was at the beach today and found tons or small porous rocks that would be great for starting some zoa colonies. I'm wondering what the best way to clean the rock would be, or if it is a bad idea. What are your thoughts?

just because you found the rock at the beach doesn't mean it is safe to put in your aquarium. there may be metals in the rock that will ensure no invert or coral will grow in your tank.

it is a gamble yo say the least. I personally wouldn't risk it.
