Coraline Algae

I have heard that when water become stable the best prominent sign visually is the Coraline Algae growth.

I wonder if we increase addition of calcium or with a good efficient clacium reactor, will this then be teh best way to increase the growth of this coraline algae in the tank?

cheers,

MD

Keep your parameters stable, they'll grow. Do you have any in your tank now? If not, you might want to seed it somehow.

If you don't see any in your tank, just find anything with coraline on it and scrape it into your tank if you want to make sure. Don't rush, it'll come. Is your tank cycled?

Keep alk, calc and mag within the proper range and coraline will grow. Calcium 450 ppm, alkalinity 7-11 dKh, magnesium 1300ppm.

Except white spots and lines at the edges of coralline can be the growing tips and surfaces. I agree that whole white expanses are bad.

In addition to the comments above about calcium, alkalinity and, more so than most corals, magnesium is important to keep up, and keeping organics and phosphate low will encourage coralline.

im not a 100% sure if this would work but i heard if your LFS sells ocean water and if you use this on your next water change it will increase the growth of coralline algae.

My last data: Calcium 440, KH 9-10, Magnesium: this one I have to check. does not have any test kit for Mag. how can we raised our magnesium level?

I am using mostly natural sea water except sometimes, I make intervals with man made sea salt.

No, those molecules are not a concern from this standpoint.

Coralline is a great sign of better water chemistry and will become much like a weed to you as you advance I always seem to want to keep the four sides of the glass clean so coralline can put up quite the fight if I don't clean the back wall as regularly as I should!
