heat from blueline 10 pump on calcium reactor

recently set up a used mrc cr-2 reactor with the spraybar and bl10 pump.after several hours of running the pump gets so hot you cant touch it.I spoke with champion and they will take a look if I ship it to them but stated it does run hot.I also am thinking about just buying a second and seeing if it does the same thing. It is hot enough to concern me...if a hose fell onto it or something it would almost certainly melt and possibly catch fire.just wondering if anyone else has this setup and has any feedback concernng if this is normal or not.

Not sure what is normal on heat on those pumps.

But, I would not base my worry of fire on if you can keep your hand on it or not . Human skin starts to burn at about 130 degrees F. Not sure of the burning point of vinyl tubing, but I'd guess its melting point around 225 degrees or so. Paper will ignite around 425 degrees F.

Most baseboard hydronic heaters run around 180-190 degrees F, and I am willing to bet it would feel far hotter to the touch.

well I taped a coralife digital thermometer probe to the side of the pump with electrical tape first thing this morning and after about 6 hrs of runtime it hasnt gone over 110 degrees so I am guessing I am safe.still pretty hot but hopefully not going to burn the house down.
