My initial experience t5 to MH
So i did it. I went from t5 to metal halide.....sorta. I went from a retro t5 to a mixture of t5 and mh. From the the initial 6x54w I now have 2-250w mh (phoenix 14k) with three t5's (two geissman actinic+ and one aquablue+). All i can say is i love the mixture of the two. THe shimmer is beautiful and really changes the tank. I still have three blue t5 lamps which gives the tank the full amount of blue.
Right now i run the t5's for 8 hrs, with the mh on for 4 hrs in the middle of the t5 lighting. I figure ill go up an hour after a week and see how it does. I mounted the mh 14 inches off the water and put all as many of the corals as i could on the sand bed. I opened the top to my canopy so there is no more top to help with heat. So far heat has not even been an after thought with the same fans, open back and open top canopy the temps have run the exact same. Any other advice for acclimating the new light? |
