ro water circulation

Hi, I keep about 5 gallons of water as a reservoir and have it feed into my sump via a tunze osmulator. The RO water is stagnant- does it need to be ciculated to prevent algae growth before it goes into the system?

If it's closed off from light no algea should grow, but bacteria will grow regardless. If you go through the 5 gallons pretty quickly I wouldn't worry about circulating it, but if it sits for a week or 2, a small air pump with an air stone will keep it moving.

How much deeper would the ocean be if it didn't have sponges?

I store my RO/DI water unstirred until I need it, which may be a few weeks.

Same here. As long as the storage containers are clean, there shouldn't be anything happening in your ro/di that you have to worry about. There shouldn't be any nutrients in it to support any sort of life.
