Will Octopus 150 work in 10" of water?

I picked up a new sump for my 40b. It's another 40b with glass partitions already in it. I just made an eggcrate box to raise the skimmer but can only get the water level down to 10". The process of breaking down the tank and setting up the new sump/stand took a few hours, so the skimmer is going nuts right now and the skimmate is almost overflowing with the gate valve wide open. And I extended the riser tube by about 1-1.5". BUT I don't know what will happen when the skimmer calms down. WIll this work? I know the recommended lever is 6-8 inches and I used to run it at 7". Can I pick up another adapter and extend the vertical length of the gate valve a litte more so the output is above the water line (right now it's JUST at the water line, half submerged)? Any help would be appreciated.

We just unwrapped our 2nd 150NWS ...

Short ans: No ...not really, 9-10 is definetly the max (I thought) but to quote straight from the manual:
the outlet needs to be above the water

...there was a thread on this a few months back...I sorta disagreed slightly with the posters: mine is submerged right up to the "cone" part and works like a champ...
a 2nd one in our other tank is in about 5" of water and works just fine also

I think the main concern is a steady water level so you can fine tune it...but IMHO its not a overtly sensitive skimmer

...but if your water level is too far past the cone part, I think it would circumvent the design, no?....I mean I'm not seein how it could work in water that deep; there simply won't be enough bubble travel to make a decent skimmate

It's calmed down a little now, still not fully back to normal, and the bubble level has backed off significantly. So much so that I had to close the gate valve a little. Hopefully it'll work out.

So if the skimmer wasn't working due to the water level too high, what exactly would it be doing or not doing to indicate that? A day after I put it in it was back to normal. Two days ago I had to make some adjustments in the sump and since then skimmer has been producing dense, very tiny bubbles, but they arent' turning into much foam. As you can see from the pics, it still produces skimmate, but not as much as before. I did not touch the skimmer two days ago, but I did bump the gate valve and may have adjusted the physical height of the tube.
