Red algae ID pls!
Hi!
For some time now, I have developed a pretty cool algae growing in a middle of a soft coral. At first it was just a few strings, but now is getting bigger. I don't mind it, and the coral seems to not be bothered also. Can I keep it ? Is it ok to have it ? I am planning in building a refugium soon, so can I transplant it to the refugium ? It looks pretty nice ... |

Some sort of red turf algae. I like the stuff, but I could never get it to stay alive when I tried to remove some from pvc or glass at the LFS to bring home.
I use this site to get an idea about macros: http://www.saltcorner.com/AquariumLi...wsesection.php click on red algae, then wire/hair/turf algae to see some different species

And your coral may not look bothered by it now (but it is) and it will only get worse. I'd try to pull it out and set it on a small rock in a low flow area, or rubberband it to a small rock for a few weeks and see if it attaches. The coral will be much happier!

You can try to move it but it might be tough to successfully do it, definitely worth a try though. It looks like something a tang would definitely like though.
