aluminum?

So I'm in the process of building my 90g tank, and I ran into a problem.... The screens that I'm going to put on top of the tank is going to be made of clear mesh screen from BRS, but I couldn't find window screen frames that were made of anything but aluminum. Is aluminum safe to use? OR should I seek out vinyl/plastic?

I would not use any metals unless you plan on powdercoating and clearcoating to protect them.

The standard window screen frames from Home Depot or Lowes are painted aluminum and work fine. I've had one for a few years with no sign of deterioration.

aluminum is probably fine, especially painted, or at it least will be fine for quite a while before it shows any corrosion. Steel, not so much.

hrm, yeah, I looked around and couldn't find any non-aluminum ones. Maybe I'll go back and pick it up again. :P

I used one from home depot for about a year without any issues. I wouldn't want to leave it sitting in the water, but as a cover it seemed to work fine. It was just bare aluminum.

Yeah, as just a cover you should be fine. Just give it a quick look every couple weeks when you feed for peace of mind if you want though.

You could also use pond netting in a window screen frame.
