Glass Holes Return Kit

Happy New Year, folks

I was going to order a 700 gph overflow drill kit from Glass Holes, but then decided to browse their web site to see if I might get something over and above that to tag along, and I came across their return kits.

I thought, if I am getting an overflow drill kit, I might as well get a return kit, too. But then they have a 1/2" (http://www.glass-holes.com/1-2-Inch-...t-return50.htm) and 3/4" returns. Which size do you think I want for the 40 g tank with Mag 5 return pump?

One other question. That return bulkhead. Where do I want to locate it? Above the water level? Or under?

Either 1 is good , put the overflow on the left side and the return on the right side under the water but close to the top and put a little hole on the end of return closest to the bulkhead to cause a siphon break( This stops all the water from backing down into your sump that can overflow onto your floor once air is sucked in)

For my 700 gph overflow kit, they recommended a 3/4" return kit and a mag 7 for my 46 gallon tank.

Yep, I would second the 3/4" and mag 7. That way, if you ever decide to upgrade, the drill for the 3/4" will be useful again.
