Is this brown jelly disease?
I need to know what this jelly algae looking stuff is on my plate coral skeleton and going on the sand to the left. The plate lost all it's tissue almost a week ago and now this has formed.... Also the shrimp is what brought my attention to it, because he picks at it.
Only reason I left the plate skeleton in there is because someone on here told me it may grow back. Last edited by RtReef; 01/14/2012 at 05:10 PM. |

That looks like Cyano Bacteria or Red Slime & it's there because your plate coral is receeding & has decaying tissue.

There is a slight chance it could regrow over the exposed skeleton, however my experience has been once they start to go it's pretty much a done deal, however if you do remove it, that should take care of the Cyano in a few days.
