Fluval clearmax
Does fluvial clearmax work to remove nitrates if you have a sudden spike would it work to remove the nitrates then be able to be removed my nitrates are at 20 ppm and I do water changes but it doesn't seem to work

20 isn't so bad.
I haven't used that particular product, but of the handful I tried, nothing worked like the packaging claimed. Adding a fuge with macro helped a lot. Microbacter 7 was a good product, too. And of course, bio pellets if you want to go all out. Starting with clean quality water, regular/frequent water changes, and balanced feeding are important, of course. When I was feeding heavy to keep an NPS alive, I tried all kinds of stuff. Ultimately I got rid of the NPS, but the above mentioned products were the only things that showed any promise for me.

Kent marine, nitrogen sponge. It seems to be doing it's job. Not particularly fast but nitrates are dropping in my tank. It could be the natural biology of the tank but I'm down from off the scale to about 40ppm.
