RODI question

is this a good RODI system? Or are there any particulars I should be looking for in one?

All u need is a 4 stage RO/DI, the brand name means nothing, it should consist of the membrane a 1 micron sediment cartridge, a carbon block rated for at least 5,000g & a DI resin cartridge. Filmtec by DOW is the most widely used membrane & easily purchased for replacement. I would avoid a 100 gpd system, as the rejection rate is higher & you will be replacing the DI resin faster, a 75gpd is the best way to go, but there will be more waste water but that's far cheaper than DI resin.

I used to have a cheap ebay unit and it worked fine. The tds was 0 and I changed the filters when it started showing tds. Then it started spewing water. No big deal, new O-ring on the filter housing. Tried several from the supply shop here, no go, still leaked. Upon further inspection, found cracks in the housing. Ebayer I bought it from is no longer there.

Bought a Typhoon III by Air, Water, and Ice http://www.airwaterice.com/product/1...TDS-Meter.html

Great unit, a little spendy but I'm happy. The alarm is great and I can actually call the company. I even get email alerts about filter changes approaching.

Please don't mistake, just saying that is the one I have and really like the company and service. I'm sure there are more out there similar to this, but this is the one I went with. If you go with the ebay model, just keep in mind if it goes down, the seller may not be around to help you.

Can't recommend that unit.

Here are some things to look for in a good system for this hobby:

No more than 4 stages (sediment, carbon, RO, DI) unless you have specific water quality issues you want to address
Standard-sized prefilters, membrane, and DI cartridge
Brand name, high-rejection membrane
Specifications provided for each stage
Pressure gauge after the prefilters and before the membrane
Thermometer
TDS meter (handheld or in-line)
DI bypass
Vertical DI stage
Refillable DI cartridge
Aluminum bracket
Quick connect fittings
No water from pressurized storage container delivered to DI
Flush valve
Clear housings
High-quality instructions written in clear English
Customer support before, during, and after your purchase
A vendor involved in your hobby

Russ

honestly i have bought that unit from ebay yrs ago but i will recommend buying one from Bulkreefsupply. thats what i have now. u wont find the replacement filters or parts if something goes bad. BRS had all kinda kits and replacement parts and filter available for their units. also if ur city goes to chloromines u wont find the upgrade filter kit for it. just my 2 cents

Russ is too good to outright say it, but buckeye field supply is a good choice too, and talk about someone involved in your hobby.

I have delt with both BFS and BRS with satisfaction, I would avoid the kent one though. Way overpriced.
