so i need 2 pumps

I need 2 pumps for water changes, one that will take water out and one that will pump new water in from my holding tank. I'm thinking I'll just use submersible pumps with hoses attached.

I am looking at BRS at the maxijet 900. However I have heard there are complaints about the new maxijets because they are now using a different manufacturer and the QC isn't as good? But would it be ok for the simple application I'm using it for?

Otherwise I'm thinking maybe the eheim compact 600 instead. My head height on the "drain" pump will only be like 1 foot. The head height on the "new water" pump will probably be a couple feet. (3 feet max)

I'm leaning towards the eheim at this point. Thoughts?

Eheim good. Maxijet bad.

The maxijets are fine as long as noise does not bother you

Or you can use a Reeffiller dual head pump for continous water changes daily

The reeffiller dual head pump is what you want if you are looking to automate it.

Balancing two pumps will never work in a water change system without it being too complex.

If you just want to manually do it then individual pumps will work. I would seriously consider the Reeffiller. Change a few gallons a day. Very simple and effective system.

So Maxijets are crap now? I just bought 2 of them. One for my Remora and another for a spare. Use them mostly for mixing salt and water changes from my Brute. Is there a recommended replacement to use on my Remora?

The current maxijets yea. Cobalt aquatics is now the "original" maxijet. I had read about them but wasn't sure if I should just avoid it altogether or if it would have been ok with what I was doing. I guess I'll just save myself the headache.

I dont want to drop a couple hundred on a reef filler, so I went with the eheims for now. Thanks for the input. I'm going to do manual changes for now, but the reef filler would definitely be something to save up for.

You can use two pumps to automate water changes but you can rely on each pump having the same exact output. Here is a thread I worked on with a fellow reefer on how to automate it with some pumps and float switches.
