Saving engery.
Incase anyone is interested; I recently switched from a fixture 2 150w MH and 2 130w CF to 4 AI's Sol Blues. The amp draw when the old lights were on was 5.5 amps or about 6600 wats over a 10 hour lighting period. The new lights use about 1.9 amps or 2280 watts That is if I remember the P/I*V forumal correctly. Thats 4320 saved per day at a cost of about .12 that adds up to .50 cents per day. Not to mention the cost of running the chiller and pump that would run about 4 to 5 times ten minutes each when the old lights were on. So with that being said I estimate I will be saving about $200.00 per year. Not a big deal until you think of it as, How many case of beer that can buy!

It would be nice if somewhere along the line we could find out the true life of LED's for a reef fixture. If you go by what some mfg's claim you need to add the savings from bulbs for a number of years to that $200.00 figure.

If you can go by the manufactures specs of 50,000 hours and we use 10 hours per day per year then that would lead us to belive that they are good for 13.689 years Hmmm I don't know, but at 13 years buying MH and PC bulbs at 200.00 per year and the 200.00 per year engeney savings that is 4200.00 over the led lights lifetime. Wow even mor beer per year. of course atthat much beer maybe I will need the money for a new liver... LOL
