Water from my LFS got into my tank!
I picked up some more astrea snails today from my LFS. I had the bag floating in the tank, with scotch tape holding it to the side. I walked away to mix some saltwater and a couple minutes later noticed that the bag had sunk to the bottom of my tank. The bag was upright so at least all the water didn't dump in. I quickly pulled the bag out and hand placed the snails into the tank. I then promptly did a 2 gallon water change (it's all the mixed saltwater I had at the moment). Mind you, the snails came out of one of the LFS coral frag tanks. Not sure if that matters at all. Should I be worried????

unless you were going to quarantine those snail in the 1st place (or air dry them 1st), nothing you could have done would have prevented "something" from the LFS from entering your tank....
("something" = good or bad) ....thats why you should quarantine regardless or all bets are off but: if I were a betting man I'd say no |

Uh oh.
I would be EXTREMELY worried right about now. Your 2 gallon water change should be immediately followed by a 45 gallon water change. Just kidding. I wouldn't loose sleep about a few ounces of frag tank water getting into your tank, especially if you weren't planning to quarantine the snails anyway. You'll be fine... probably. |

LOL thanks. I do quarantine my fish but not inverts. I always try to get as little foreign water in my tank as possible (as I'm sure anyone else does).

The snails are kept in water without copper which is one of the big concerns with the water the fish are kept in. There is always some risk of disease, but minimal in the frag tank.

My one LFS keeps copper in his fish tanks. I make sure to do a 30 min drip then into a rinse bucket of water from the QT, then into my QT.
