Question Where's my Corris Wrasse?

About three weeks ago we bought a Red Corris Wrasse and we didn't see him for a couple of days but then he re-appeared in the sand and has been missing ever since. We know it's normal for them to do that but we're starting to think it's dead under the sand or eaten. They change dramatically as they grow into adulthood but do they hide while they're changing? Is this normal? Someone please help!

I've seen them disappear for weeks at a time in the sand. I wouldn't be to worried, other than I don't think they're reefsafe.

How much deeper would the ocean be if it didn't have sponges?

My coris wrasse sleeps in the sand, but it is out foraging for food every day. I've never seen it 'disappear in the sand for weeks at a time.' If it did, I'd be worried. And they are semi reef safe. Mine doesn't bother with any of my corals, at least in terms of eatting them. But it will turn over or move every small rock or plug that it can while looking underneath for small animals to eat. They do dig up the sand bed looking for small critters to eat, like spaghetti worms, pods and other smallcritters without shells. And my Mueller's Butterfly just eat a long skinny bristle worm! It is, after all, part of life on the reef.
