How long will the amphpods survive?
I got a bottle of amphipods - around 200+ in order to start a separate refugium to cultivate them as food for my main tank. I wanted to rethink how I was going to do the refugium so I just took the hit and dumped the entire bottle into the display tank. I did it late at night when the fishies were sleeping. What are the chances that they will survive and possibly even thrive? I think their only real predator is a single scooter blenny.
On another note, I got some live brine shrimp and put a small net-full into the tank. Maybe 50 or so. The fish got full and they were swimming around without being predated. I didn't see any this morning. Is there a chance they are hiding and maybe will establish a colony? Or is there no chance of this happening with brine shrimp in a tank with predators?

I would say that the amphipods have a good chance of making it. 3 things to think about here. Do the amphipods have a food source? What predators? What filters you have. (Filters, Filter Socks, etc.) could remove them. If you have lots of rock and sand than I would say they might make it. Hard to tell.
The live brine shrimp are doomed and will get ate. |
