Haven't seen YWG in days.
Haven't seen him in 3 days. Is it normal for these guys to hide for long periods of time or is he probably a gonner? He never really came out much anyway, but I'd usually see him out everyday. No body anywhere and noone on the floor around the tank. Unfortunately the spot he lived in is really hard to see and theres alot of caves under the rocks. I still see the pistol shrimp in there. The shrimp wouldn't have jumped him or something would he?

Probably happy as a tick and burrowing with an exit toward the back. I've had mine vanish for months on end, because I have heavy central rockwork.
The shrimps can do them and other fishes harm---but ime , after a couple of years of being together and growth. He's probably sucking up the detritus in the sand, but when he gets hungry, offer him Formula One Sinking Pellets, medium grade.

I'll get some sinking pellets. I've been shooting frozen mysis or brine into his cave. I'd been worried about him getting food even when I still saw him often. Never saw him eat, he didn't come out when I fed the other fish. Just would appear whenever he felt like it. Nowhere near 2 years. More like 2 weeks lol

Mine goes missing for days/weeks at a time. He's 3 yrs old and has done this since I got him. The only time I see him is when he decides to dart out and snatch a quick bite at feeding time.

I didn't see mine for 2 weeks after I put him in the tank & then I saw him every day for breakfast. Lately he's been going into hiding for a few days at a time. Frozen mysis seems to get his attention though.

Found him!
Found him chilling underneath my skimmer in my sump. Not quite sure how he managed this. I have a gurgle buster on my drain, it had to have sucked fitting into that. He's gotta be starving.

Poor fellow! He'll be glad to get back to lusher sand. Good you found him. If you've got a hole and need to patch it, try plastic needlepoint canvas, hobby store. Cuts with scissors, sews with fishing line, indestructible in a tank. If it's round, make a cone of the canvas with the small end inward.

I have an open top. Think he's likely to do it again or would he learn his lesson about that place sucking?

Be careful with YWG in an open top tank. You found him in the sump this time. Consider yourself lucky. He is most likely a jumper or he probably would not have found his way into your sump. If he decides to jump over the side of your tank you will find him dried up on the floor one day. It's happened to me with another Goby I had. If he is a jumper it's just a matter of time.
