Crushed Coral For Ca Reactor?

From I have about 60 pounds of LR rubble (its not rock its coral rubble) from my previous tank that I can't use I'm my new system so I was wondering if I could use that in my calcium reactor? I figure its the same thing as the stuff you buy, am I wrong in thinking this?

Here is a sample pic of what it looks like:

Ya I don't see why is would be bad. Coral is coral in my eyes. Maybe someone with some chemistry knowledge can help us both out.

I'm curious about this too. I read on RC somewhere that putting dead snail shells led to higher phosphates. Not sure if that's true or not, but phosphates would be something to rule out if we put dead coral skeletons.

Ya I can't see what would be different between the store bought stuff and coral skeletons. We need a chemistry master to chime in.

I know, but we are talking about dead SPS coral skeleton. SPS coral is made up of mostly calcium, so I don't see the difference between this and what you buy in the LFS.

BemarcCheman can't understand you. BemarcCheman was just a copy and paste spammer. If you look his message was just copied from a earlier one in this thread. If you see any more posters that post in the same style (brand new, one sentence posts, with a broken image), feel free to report them for us .

I have done it before, with no bad effects, but would suggest giving them a nice soak in RO/DI water to help pull out any contaminants that may have some into contact with them. I have never had enough to fill my reactor, but as long as they came from your tank, I don't see much harm.

Great, thanks for the help. I have a lot of it, so I'll give it a nice bath and then load it into the reactor.
