Never ever lay a co2 tank on its side. It can cause it to leak ant that won't be a good thing. I think if I remember right laing them on there side the co2 eats a seal and causes them to leak. I did fw plants and used a co2 tank and read someone had one in there car after getting it filled and it wasn't closed all the way and almost passed out behind the wheel.

Yes upright. When filled there are only a few inches of vapor and the rest is liquid. If you lay it on its side the liquid will try to come out of the regulator.
