Will This Be a Good Quantine Tank For Me
http://www.drsfostersmith.com/produc...uctnum=0321482
It's only 12 gallons, but I have a 66 (Red Sea Max 250) and really don't want to have a second tank running. I accept that I'll regret it if I don't Quarantine, and I hope to only have small fish (I at least plan to buy them as small as possible) Dr. Foster recommended this to me personally, and anyone else who happened to be reading the side bar. But this tank, this sponge, some PVC, a heater, and I should be good to go? www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=23702&pvid=91028&productnum=73728 I can just imagine me bringing friends over: So you spent $2500 on this tank full of rocks? Yes. There are snails too. Where are the fish? They are in the little empty tank over there. Why? It's not safe to put fish into an Aquarium... really. Look, I'm not on trial here!

You don't need to get all fancy, a simple 10 to 20 gal tank, heater and that sponge filter with an air pump or better yet a maxijet powerhead and your good to go.
If you're not doing corals then you don't even need a light and if your are doing corals then the built in light is not good enough anyway. One thing to keep in mind, water volume, it takes twice as much ammonia to get to lethal concentrations in a 20g as it does in a 10g, giving you more time to react and thus places less stress on your fish. |

I travel for work four days a week. So testing and maintenance isn't really a daily option. I have to train my roommate in feeding and "if the temperature says 106, that means unplug it and call me" ... I know I don't need fancy, but I don't have any real place to hide it, so even if its just an empty tank with a sick fish, people are going to see it. I went with Red Sea because I know I won't have time to mess with equipment this time around. So if an extra $40 makes it more of a display tank than a hide in the closet tank, then its worth it to me. My last tank was up for 3 years. Never got ich, started with live rock, no bad hitchhikers. Feel like i had unprotected sex for a few years and just got lucky. I want to be careful, but part of me can't help but think, "Nothing bad happened last time"
