Curious about different colors of algae?
I am currently running a FOWLR and slowly working my way up to a "semi" reef system. That being said, I would have to admit that I do not have some of the testing devices that most you you have. Anyway, my question is related to the variuos colors of algae. Sometimes my algae growing on the glass is different colors. Sometimes it is a brown algae, sometimes it is reddish and sometimes it is green.
Are the various colors realated to -or- possibly likned to an OVER/UNDER of particular issues? with the change of seasons I beleive (think? guess?) the now green color that grows is somehow related to the natural sunlight coming into the room as the angle of the sun changes through the year. I certainly could be wrong. Does the reddish or brown indicate anything? I should be clear that this algae is the algae growing on the front/side glass, it is not thick, and a weekly rub with the "Mag-Ffloat" seems to do the trick. I do not seem to have any issues with growth on the interior of the tank. Is this also normal?? Thanks, Ken
