switching 10g over to 36g bow front?

Hello reefers i have a question.....im currently trying to switch my 10g over to a 36g and im thinking i should start with some new sand and fill the 36g tank to 26g along with some new premium live rock then let cycle and then slowly switch over water and the contents of the 10g ?! Does anyone have any tips?

I did this but i switched from a 36 bow front to a 90. I used new sand because I was worried about something happening if i disturbed the sand bed. but once I got the fish out the 36 I took some of the sand from my 36 to seed my 90. matter of fact most of my rock when in there also to cycle. I should taken that opportunity to rid myself of my damsel fish.

Sounds like a good plan. I agree with the new sand and seeding the new tank with some LR from existing tank. As pfcreed suggested take some of your old sand, just a little off the top, so you don't stir it up. If you can get a rock out of existing tank that won't mess with the sand bed, I'd do that to kick start the cycle. Ghost feed the new tank during cycle also.

It's nice that you've got the room to cycle the new tank in advance. I've upgraded a few times, but since the tanks where located in the same spot I've had to do it all at once.

Also have plenty of extra new saltwater made and ready on move day. You'll use more than you think.

Your plan sounds pretty good. I'd top up the 36g rather than only filling it to 26g. Cycle it (use new sand) and then before you move fish and inverts, start doing some water swaps back and forth between the 2 tanks over a couple of days to get the water the same in both tanks. That way you have no issues aclimatting your critters.

+1, this is exactly how I've done it in the past.
