? on AI Sol controller
looking to buy a used one. are there different models ? meaning is a 2-3 year old controller capable of same things as a brand new one.

I would think that because they are upgradeable an older one would be ok, but would check with the folks at AI to be sure.

Gen 1 and Gen 2 systems exist. Gen 2 have better automation and can be updated with recent updates. Early Gen 2 models have all 40 degree optics which can cause spot lighting. They later switched the 4 corner pucks to 70 degree optics to spread the light out to the corners of the tank.

i have the SOL blue fixture in black. brand new that came in a small package deal. so just looking for a controller only. it will be on tank in kitchen. so i would need probably 30ish foot cable to run off my Apex in basement.

They did change the controller a few months back. They made the button a bit better as it was really hard to use before. You would spin it and it would jump around on the menus.

There is a firmware update to change knob sensitivity, check on their website
