Just got my 4 Kessil a150s in!

Hey guys, I just purchased (after alot of research, and reading ) 4 of the kessils! 2 sky blues, and 2 of the Ocean blues! They will be replacing my 2 MHs, and 2 VHOs. Unboxing them as we speak. ( Man they package these suckers tight :-) ). Anyway, il probably be adding them onto our aquarium tomorrow, and will keep everyone up to date on pictures, Coral growth, and personal thoughts, so feel free to tag along, as i myself will kind of be doing the same, ! Thanks to all!

if it's not too late, i'd think about waiting for the A350, and returning your A150's. Otherwise enjoy they are some real nice lights.

Thanks guys :-) . Yea they sure are some pretty looking lights! I have waited almost 4-5 months doing research on the newest of new led lighting. I just figured while I actually " do " ,haha have the money w/o spending it on something else, that there's always going to be new lights coming out every month or other month. I love what Kessil has to offer. ( And I know they have the new a350s coming sometime soon, but hey, in another 5+ months after out and I guess tested, buy reefers, and the scientists, than I might look into getting a few, but for now as we are going to Macna this Sept. , so hope to see, and get alot of stuff there as I've never been :-) ! Oh one more thing, idk if anyone else that has these, but I honestly don't see ( im assuming that its called the spot light effect) this in these. I mean yea, compared to a square shaped fixture, they might not spread quiet as much light, but I noticed unless you put the light itself only 2-3inches away from water, than I could see this. But Im guessing that many don't leave them this way! I so far see a large spread compared to what I was expecting, so am very happy about that also! Thank you all again, and I will post some pictures tomm. After I get them up :-) . Can sleep, and can't wait!!!!!!

I just got my Kessil A150 today in Sky Blue. I have it over a 29 AGA that is 30 1/4 x12 1/2 x18 3/4. I was surprised by the light. It is just as beautiful and has the shimmer that everyone has stated. It just doesn't seem as bright as I expected. I have it about 5" above the water and had to remove my egg crate top. My Aquatinics TX5 with 5 24" T-5's seemed much brighter.

LEDs are deceivingly dimmer to the eye. They will have more PAR than the T5s.

Hey there buddy! ....this is my 2nd day running them, and I've noticed now ( and don't know if its a bad thing or not but) that when I used to walk up to, or look at our aquarium from either the far, or up close, I used to I guess say to myself, " OK...tanks looking pretty good, hmmmm, I wonder if my corals are growing, oh geez , why is my tanks temperature not staying in the 2 degree range all day " ! ***** well now im looking at it different. Kind of like " WOW, look at that thing, its absolutely Gorgeous , look at my fishes colors, ohh my.... thats the real color of that Coral " ! + the shimmer! Your definitely in for a treat when you decide to get yours, can't wait to see them on your tank !!!!

Hey there ! I am glad you like your Kessil! And, actually the same thing was occurring with myself when seen at my LFS over one of his aquariums. He had his....mmm, I'd say about 6" above the water line, and also on the clamp on neck! They seemed very dim, yet very beautiful and that natural look I it gave of with the shimmer ! So of course with me looking at many Leds being a while now, I decided to do a little about these guys! ( just fyi, this was done near the 3 week period b/f my purchase) But found out that this seemed to be true by many people through the naked eye, as (i believe its below 420nm, but please correct me if wrong) like our old lights....for mel MHs, VHOs, and T-5s ......as well as with your T-5 lights. These kind of lights give of a more Florec . Color, and actually to our eyes look up to 3-4 times brighter, lux. In this specific multy led chip spec. They are able to shape the spectrum of light. Also the broadband spectrum provided ( such as the sun gives off ) is changed from a more UV spectrum, or light, to infrared light. And with the engineer techs at Kessil focusing alot of time into the (only type of optic available now on an led light) pure glass focusing lense yet allowing for more " light flux " or the # of photons produced per area of this beam. A great example I read was saying, say you take a something such as a hose nozzle with a straight jet of water shooting out from it. And then next to it you have another sprayer nozzle. With the nozzle shooting out of the more cone shaped small pin like areas of this nozzle, you will have the same amount of water coming out, but instead of the focused beam like nozzle, where your getting deeper penitration ( as im sure you see the shadows under your rocks/corals in your tank) allowing for better and tighter spread of the light source, unlike the sunflower shaped nozzle giving more of a spray effect, or mist effect. All this is in relation to what you are more than likely seeing. These lights are strong, alot stronger than many would think! This is just my input also, as im far from a led expert of any type. Just alot of reading, and research. Your actually getting a ton of Par throughout your tank, as mentioned b/f, due to many factors mentioned, alot of shimmer, your used to your T-5 lights as well, and our eyes actually do not seem to catch the " actual " amount of light really being given off. Also the Sky Blue light contains probably alot more of the blue hue than you may think, as there's actually a pretty sufficient amount.**** In my opinion, I would try to raise you led up a few inches, and than maybe a tad more, as you honestly will not be loosing the amount of Par at sand bed etc. As you may think! I also apologize in advance for writing you something so long, it seems like when I start.....it never stops, :-)

Thank you for the great input, and fact. As this was one of the first things I actually noticed when seeing these for the first time!

Thanks tmr11driver. I am more at home with a 118cc chainsaw than understanding PAR values. I will take your advice and raise the light. I too watched the video produced by laredo300c. Great video but still does not do this light justice. I can't stop gazing at my tank. I hope I can pull myself away and make it to work tomorrow. It is some of the best money I have spent on a product in the marine aquaria industry.

Funny how yesterday I went to best buy to shop for an hd camera, when I saw the price, I decided to keep the one we have and finally fill my tank with corals. Funny what reefing will do to you.

I raised the light from 4" to 8" and it is better coverage and the tank looks even better. I hope the RBTA's like it. Thanks for the help.

Hey RG :-) ! That's awesome, a 116cc chainsaw!!! You must carve wood sculptures or ice!! :-) Anyway Buddy, just give them a chance, they are so much more powerful than I thought, and as said in the owners manual, I think your supposed to have them like 1 ft or a little more above your tank. So im moving mine up also and am going to probably have a friend come router.out 4 holes for these to set on top of over my canopy (which is only around 6inchs above the water line. If I was smart enough to add pictures to this, I could show you a few....let me go work on that!!!!!!... thanks Buddy!
