skimz protein skimmers owners-SOS

Have you guys made any modifications to the ES 5000 pumps that comes with the skimmer? I was just wondering because within a year, the pumps have the tendency for the impellers to jam and stop working. I am really growing tired of the problems of the pumps, wondering if you could replace it with another pump, possibly the eheim hobby pumps??

I have an Warner Marine MF201 (has the newest Eden pump and impeller design) which is like a Skimz SM201 that runs the same pump ES 5000. You might want to check with Skimz or a Skimz dealer like Aquacave to see if you can get the newest pump and impeller. Mine does not have any restart issues nor does it get stuck. Which version do you have? The older ones had that issue from what I have read. If you're still within the year, you should be able to get it covered under warranty I would think.

Sad state the hobby is in concerning skimmers. You either get one with a warranty for quite some time, or you get one that uses a pump that is common and cheap enough to buy a back up.

take a picture of your impeller. Send to your dealer, ask for the replacement impeller they came out with to fix the first impeller they shipped with. got my new one from singapore no charge and works like a champ skimz 201 for me. First impeller would not restart, plastic on magnet split.

carnut, do you Janet's info from singapore, her email and contact info? sad part is its the new magnet that got stuck to the pump, melted to the pump. I am just going to send it to my dealer and they will give me a new pump like last time, the pumps are covered for one year.
