MRC Nilsen Reactor
I have an MRC Nilsen reactor that water bypasses the O-ring to the outer lid where the kalkwasser dries white and water leaks out of the reactor. Has anyone else experienced this problem with an MRC reactor, or is this typical of kalkwasser/Nilsen reactors in general.

I have a kalk reactor by Aquatic Systems Design, it doesn't leak. The only problem I've had with it is that it uses a Maxijet to stir the kalk. I have to replace the impeller every few months, apparently the kalkwasser eats the impeller blades.

I have an MRC Nilsen reactor. Your o-ring is not sealing properly. Go to Ace Hardware and buy some Silicone Grease. Costs about $4. Lube up the o-ring with this, then reseat o-ring and tighten down as normal. This will seal the reactor. Reapply every few weeks or when you can't feel the grease on the o-ring. I use this on my calcium reactor lid o-ring as well.

AcroporAddict,
Is the O-Ring supposed to seal properly without grease? Or is the grease normally required to make a proper seal?
