Shorter ATI sunpower fixture

I read somewhere that you can go shorter with the ATI sunpower fixtures. For example, a 24" fixture would work for a 36" tank. Can anyone confirm this?

On second thought, nevermind. It would cost more to go with a shorter fixture that produces the same amount of light as a 36" fixture.

Why would it cost more to go shorter? And yes you can get away with using a shorter fixture.

A 36" 4 bulb 156w fixture would be good lighting for a softie/LPS tank. A 24" inch 4 bulb 96w fixture would not be enough light for a softie/LPS tank, right? So I would have to go with a 24" 6 bulb fixture to get roughly the same amount of light as the 36" fixture. Even then the 6 bulb 24" fixture would be 12 watts less and $30 more than the 36"
