spektrum help

I have a 125 gallon reef I just bought used. It has 3. 250 watt 20,000 k halides. How do you determine if 20,000 k is the best or should it be something different say 10,000k or 15,000k. Any advice or lessons would be appreciated.

20k will give you a blue look and less coral growth. Coral growth does the best in the 10k-14k range. I ran 14k MH over my 46 gallon for years and loved the color. I had great coral growth. Most people like the blue look. Me personally i like more of a 14k look. It comes down to what you like. If you like more of a blue tone then 20k is it. If you want better coral growth then go with a 10k with actinic supplements or 14k bulbs. Its a matter or preference.
