Coral - Day 1
*note still a new one here.
After six months of cycling, gathering equipment and most importantly reading/learning I finally decided to grab a coral frag at the LFS. I went with a neon green star polyp after reading that they are relatively easy to maintain (besides the fast growth). Anyone out there have any quick tips/tricks about these guys? My LFS thought I might try feeding it after about a week, however I read, generally speaking, there's no need to spot feed this type of coral as they grab the smaller food particles when feeding fish....any second opinions? I have tried to read as much as possible in the "New to the Hobby" section, but still trying to retain all information possible. Now then, lets see if I can get a picture loaded...I will try to update the pics if something starts going wrong (or good?) Thank you to all the veteran and new reefers out there on RC for all your information, insight and experiences. Neon green star polyp after a few minutes in my tank... see attachment.

Just leave them alone and let them do their thing. Calm indirect flow.

My green star polyps are huge. I have been feeding the tank roti-feast (target feeding some zoa's that were struggling and my GSP has been pigging out I guess and is growing like a weed. Be prepared to have to cut it back at some point.

I did the same thing. I read my eyeballs out for 6 months before i got going. You will find that its easier than you think. To my knowlege GSP is the most easy. You could probaby grab some mushrooms zoas or even an easy LPS like a frogspawn and do just fine. My tank is 4 months old and i have not had any problems keeping Big LPS corals. I have not gone for any SPS yet mainly because im not a huge fan of little frags

Yeah, I noticed a few people giving away frags of the green stars LOL. Considering thats the only coral I have, it might be okay growing to a larger size. 90ish lbs of rock with one little green star on it. Needless to say, "slow and steady."

Mine looks like small green 5 fingered palm trees... Slow does it well. Nothing good happens quick in a reef tank.

Keep that on a rock that is isolated from the rest of the LR, medium light and water flow is fine, no need to spot feed.
