Clown fish

Not that it has happened yet, so no worries, I just inquiring..... my clowns have finally gotten confertable and decided to host one of my corals. Not my anenome that I bought just for them, that I lost sleep over untill it planted, nope not him, of course not lol. Anyway, if they spawn, what do I do? How do I protect the eggs from getting eaten? How long do they take to hatch? And how can I protect them babies? Thanks for your help

There's a special forum section on fish breeding; I think you'll get more help there.

You might want to jump over to the clownfish forum and the fish breeding forums for those questions. There are many threads already posted about clownfish breeding and raising.

On another note, what coral are they hosting in? They can love some SPS to death.

How much deeper would the ocean be if it didn't have sponges?

You better watch out with it hosting in the coral. I took out my two black misbar clowns for hosting in my purple goniopora. For days it was ok until it started to change color and close up a bit. Took about 2wks for it to recover and I won't be putting any clowns back for that reason. So you better start to pay attention with your coral.

The clowns were constantly making the coral close up and/or have about 80% of its tentacles close up most of the day. From what I've read.......... With that happening, the coral wasn't getting time to feed and it's more detrimental to most corals than good.

Ok well so far, the coral has not closed due to the clowns. I was concerned on how they rub on it when it is closed though. Jeez lol

I'm trying to remember where I read that about the coral. Maybe someone else might chime in. You might still be lucky on your end. I love clowns, but I could not bare to see my coral under stress like that. Where I live in the caribbean, it's very hard to get that particular coral, much less survive............... So the fish had to go......lol

Found it............

Clownfish, will often play in its polyps if no anemone can be found in the reef aquarium. This may actually be detrimental to the coral.

I had some limited succes with the fry of my clowns ( I have only 2 survivors left and they're about 12 weeks old now) but I did nothing to protect the eggs.

I just waited untill they hatched (after lights out) and scooped them out of the tank.

GREAT way to convince your spouce you need another tank tho
