fuge contents

in the sump I am building, I will have a fuge sized

14 x 12 x 17

I am planning on putting in a 5 inch DSB and the rest for cheato

does this sound like a good ratio? should I put more DSB? more cheato?

thanks

5" of sand is a good depth for a DSB. I would also add a few pieces of live rock on top of the sand. You only need about 5"-6" of water for the chaeto, it does best when at the surface so the addition of the live rock will help prop it up. I simply flip the chaeto ball over twice a week to get light to the bottom of the ball.

What???? I think you made a typo

I think live rock is beneficial to a fuge too, especially if you want it to harbor pods.

uh, no. chaetomorpha, sometimes shortened to just 'chaeto.' often times incorrectly spelled 'cheato.'

That's really all you need. We run Mineral Mud in a few (topped with like 1/2" of sand) but I haven't noticed much of a difference as long as you have a butt-load of chaeto. Don't forget to use a piece of eggcrate between the chaeto and the pump. You may want to throw a small powerhead in there to keep it moving around.
