Will Elbow on pumps input impair performance
I'm adding an external Iwaki return pump to my sump and would like to use a 90 degree elbow directly on the input. Will this have any negative effect on the pumps performance?

Yes it will slow flow to a certain degree that is why flex pvc is getting popular. You can google pump plumbing flow charts and get more accurate answers there are also some here if you use flow restriction in search.
