Please Help Me Clear Up My Water
I did a tank upgrade over the weekend. Switched to a bigger tank and added a ton of live sand i picked up off a fellow reefer. It has been 4 days now and the water is still slightly hazy/cloudy. I did a 20% water change today and have been running a 25 micron filter sock. I am also running some carbon. It is a 90 gallon with 40 breeder sump. How long should I expect the water to be hazy? Is there anything else I can do to help? My corals are hurting badly and I assume it is due to this water.

My Son-in Law just moved tanks and added some new sand etc. Murky mess it was. Ran my Diatom Filter for him and by morning it was totally clear.

interesting. i just rea up on them and see that it might be just what i need. Is there any downside to using one in a reef tank? You think i can find one locally at LFS?

It's not something you run all the time. Maybe you can borrow one from a friend.
Should be available in most LFS and even Petland. Should not be a problem for a reef tank. We both have mixed reef tanks. |

I did the same- I ran 2 filter socks and transferred live stock after two days (water was still hazy). The live rock cleared the rest up.

I don't understand why people rush like this, did you really expect for things to clear up after adding new sand? Was it rinse properly to get rid of some of the really fine stuff?
You should have set up the new tank first, let it run for a few days and then add your corals and fish. My recommendation is just to let it go about. Do your regular water changes but the sand and stuff will settle over time, don't be too alarmed about it. The tank might also go into a cycle considering its a new set up. Also, make sure you change the socks daily due to the sand storm. Good luck and hopefully you don't lose anything. |

Don't worry about it, just wait a few days more. When I filled my tank it took several days before I could even see the rocks. It will settle.

The haziness shouldn't be affecting your corals, its more or less just cosmetic from particles in the water. Give it time and it will clear up.
