Throwing Away coral trimmings
Does any one throw away their coral trimmings like people do with plants?
I have a few fast growing cap montis that pet stores don't want;I don't get any interest from local reefers either. I'd feel bad throwing them away but should this be just like trimming plants, if somebody wants to use them good but if not they go to the trash? I was also thinking in letting them dry, crush them and use them in my calcium reactor but apparently they could leach high amounts of PO4. any thoughts? |

I'm surprised that That Fish Place in Lancaster wouldn't want them in trade for store credit. I loved that place, it's a far ride from here, should be pretty close to you though.

I've been throwing away pulsing Xenia's that try to "walk" away, excess growth of an encrusting something I forgot the name of, also frags of encrouching branches of millepora, oregon tort, and green slimer. My monti cap is also getting quite large, and one of these days I'll trim it down and trash the trimmings. IMO, it's too much of a hassle to bag and transport for the little credit, if any, that an LFS will give me. If any of you want it, you can come over, I'll frag and bag for you.
I guess one option is to start a frag tank, which I know some people do.

You could also dry them out and use it for coral plugs. I like using coral skeletons as rock rubble.

I'll take those off your hands. Send me an email at divide45@gmail.com . I live a few hours south of you. I'm sure you don't want them but I have some kenya trees that you could have.

I do the same thing with the "weed" corals, Xenia, Kenyas, Leathers, etc.

Wow that's too bad .Xenia can grow to fast.I have never had a problem with the Kenya but a friend of mine really hates the effort it takes to round up the fallen babies .
