Just getting started on my 125.

I have my tank on the stand and I have been putting RO water in bucket by bucket for awhile now and I am about 1 inch from the top of the overflows. My question is, since I have never done a system with a sump and overflows, how do you get things started. When the water gets so high it starts draining thru the dursos into the sump or is there something I need to do to start the process. Also, I assume you can adjust the durso pipes up or down to get the desired height. I am hoping everything goes well so I can begin testing for leaks in a day or two. Any begginner tips is appreciated. Thanks in advance. I will try and get some pics and put them in tonight when I get home. Thanks in advance.
