Storing water.

I have two 32 Gallon Rubbermaid trash cans I bought and use for storing water. When you guys store your RO and Salt water, do you least a power head running in the container? do you leave air stone running? or just leave the water sitting? I have plumbed these trash cans to a single pump with ball valves so I can pump the salt water from the trash can to the tank. I am wondering if it need to be constantly airrated or if its enough when the water is added to the tank.

The ro water you should be fine with. I make gallon jugs of top off water and it sits for days. I ve never had any issues. The saltwater should be constantly mixed. Id use a powerhead to keep water moving.

for the cost of a $20 power head, I'd put one in your salt container as suggested by drew.

RO/DI, nope. The salt water should be mixed but it doesn't have to run all the time. An occasional start up for a few mins and then off if fine. If you have a digital timer and can program it to kick on and off every few hours it wouldn't be a bad idea.

It seems the consensus is RO water can sit, and SW should be stirred occasionally, although some mixes can sit for a while and just should be stirred prior to use. What kind of salt do you use?

I use coral life, I am glad to hear what every one is say I left the salt water sit for a a few days, but then turned on the power head and let the water mix for a few hours before pumping it out to the tank.

I like the idea of air pump to save money but I guess if I can get buy with an hour or two a day on with the power head that would be about the same electrical usage.
