Help - new to this - refugium water evaporating

HELP - NEW TO THIS - REFUGIUM WATER EVAPORATING

I have an 80 gallon tank that just completed its cycling and all I have is a CUC. I have a 20 gal refugium with macro algae, LR and a Rio 2100 pump return hose to HOB overflow box. The water in my refugium sump keeps evaporating rapidly about a gallon a day. Is this normal? Why is it losing so much water? Is there anything I can do to reduce the evaporation? Should I be doing something different? HELP!

My 75g with a 25g sump loses 1g per day to evaporation. The loss is from the surface of both the display and the sump, of course. It just shows up as a water level drop in the sump. Which is exactly how it should work.

On real hot days, I can lose almost twice that.

Top-off with good RODI fresh water as needed to keep a constant water level in your sump and that will keep your salinity stable.

A glass cover on the sump can lower loses just slightly. It is usually not worth it. Evaporation is to be expected.

When i ran metal halides my tank needed a fan blowing on it to dissipate the heat. My evap was awful. You may want to run an auto top-off so you don't have salinity swings due to evap.

Consider yourself lucky at a gallon a day. I lose 3 gallons a day!
