Salt survey????

What salt does everyone use for a reef tank?? I use tropic Marin but after doing some tests I think I might need to switch!!! Both mag and cal are way low.

I'm going to finish off the bucket I have but, I'm going to have to test the water I make and dose it before I add it to the tank

Reef Crystals, and I keep the salinity at 1.026. I think someone already did this survey, and IIRC, reef crystals and IO were the two most commonly used salts. Check out that link provided by BowedFloor. The salt numbers were put together by Bertoni, one of the chemical gurus here at RC.

I.O. for me. Have to 2 part dose to keep Ca. Mg. and Dk. up but it is very consistent salt.

I'm think about using oceanic or SeaChem Reef Salt. I think they will get me where I want to be at.

I use Tropic Marin Pro-Reef, it has higher Calc and Mag levels, but like others mentioned you'll get batches at time that are off or you'll get batches that settle in the bucket.

To combat it I have my kids roll the bucket around the patio for a little while before I use it.

Should be fine. I used 2 buckets of it when the tank was young, simply because it was on sale. It does give off a certain odor when you first mix it.

I used to buy the buckets of RC, good for 150 gallons. I switched to buying them by the case/box. Each case is good for 200 gallons, but it is divided into 4 sealed plastic bags. That takes care of the settling issue.

Red sea coral pro as well...great salt, switched from reef crystals. I've only seen a few bad posts about RSCP and it was due to a bad batch, it happens. Just test your new salt water off the bat.

Don't mean to ask a stupid question but are there different salts for a fish only tank vs full reef?
